Accessibility

Accessible from the first sketch to the final file.

Everything we deliver meets Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA. Every file is designed and tested to pass Section 508 review the first time.

If a file we deliver doesn’t pass your 508 review, we fix it at no cost.

  • Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA

  • Tested against the HHS checklists

  • A conformance note with every file

How we check every file

Accessibility is the brand, not a final step.

Plain language, strong contrast, a logical reading order and alt text start with the first sketch. Then every file goes through the same five checks.

  1. Built in from the start. Real headings and tables, a clear reading order, colors that pass contrast and alt text that explains.

  2. Automated checks. An accessibility checker and Acrobat’s full check.

  3. A careful human review. Against WCAG 2.1 AA, including a screen reader read-through.

  4. Sign-off. By our Section 508 specialist.

  5. A conformance note. With every file: the standard, the checks and the date.

508 remediation and complex documents

Facing a deadline?

Section 504 and ADA Title II

Two federal rules require web content and mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. As of October 2026, the deadlines are:

  • April 26, 2027: state and local governments with a total population of 50,000 or more, including their agencies, public universities and government-run hospitals (ADA Title II)

  • May 11, 2027: organizations that receive HHS funding and have 15 or more employees, including most hospitals, health systems and health centers (Section 504)

  • April 26, 2028: smaller governments and special districts (ADA Title II)

  • May 10, 2028: HHS-funded organizations with fewer than 15 employees (Section 504)

Each date was extended by a year in 2026, and a lawsuit asks a court to undo that, so plan for these dates. Read the plain-language guide to the deadlines. Sources: ADA Title II rule, 28 CFR 35.200 (eCFR) and Section 504 rule, 45 CFR 84.84 (eCFR). General information, not legal advice.

The standard

Section 508 requires WCAG 2.0 Level AA for federal content, documents included. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA, which covers it.

Federal deliverables are also tested against the HHS checklists for PDF, Word and PowerPoint.
